At an event today convened by UNU-CPR’s Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), Professor Stella Ladi, Senior Fellow at UNU-CPR and Professor of Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London and Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, explored lessons from the European Union’s approach to crisis governance.

Drawing on the EU’s response to COVID-19 and the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the discussion examined how flexible coordination mechanisms, alongside formal decision-making processes, can enable faster and more effective responses to crises. These cases highlighted how joint planning, shared resources and structured incentives can help balance the need for collective action with national-level implementation.

The event reiterated the importance of strengthening informal coordination channels, creating space for early policy design, and improving learning across crises to support more adaptive and resilient governance systems.
